about sonja

SONJA BRIGHAM has studied pilates since 2002 and has taught dance and movement for over a decade. She is a comprehensively certified pilates teacher with over 650 hours of pilates-specific training.

Sonja maintains certifications to work with back injuries, scoliosis, chronic pain issues, injury rehabilitation, pre and postnatal populations including diastasis repair, and those with osteoporosis/osteopenia. She has additional studies in gait training and myofascial imbalance assessment and correction. Her continuing education includes courses such as The Female Pelvis and the Cycles of Life, Anatomy Trains in Structure and Function, Fascia as an Emotional and Sensory Organ, and Anatomy Trains for Movement Professionals through Tom Myers' KMI institute.

Her background includes a BFA in Dance (Technique and Performance) and a BA in Dance Kinesiology through the University of Massachusetts Amherst Commonwealth Honors College. She continued her conservatory dance training in the professional division of the Ailey School and completed her first pilates certification through Erika Bloom Pilates Plus in Manhattan.

Sonja has been honored to train with Tom Myers, Dr. Robert Schleip, Erika Bloom, Doris Pasteur Hall, Leslie Powell, Kuan Hui Chew, Rebekeh Rotstein, Thomas Vacanti, Paul Dennis, and Peter Brandenhoff. She has traveled internationally to work with high-profile clients and to lead workshops and certifications.

Currently based in Boston, Sonja specializes in therapeutic, one-on-one pilates customized to the individual. She is inspired by looking at the body as a puzzle, combining release work and strength training to address individual fitness and therapeutic goals. Her functional postural adjustments and lengthening cues sculpt a strong, deeply supported, supple body. She will help you find ease, harmony, and strength through movement and stasis as she identifies and helps to address muscular and structural imbalances. Emphasis is placed on proper biomechanics and alignment so that sessions are both safe and challenging for people of every movement background.
