Her background includes a BFA in Dance (Technique and Performance) and a BA in Dance Kinesiology through the University of Massachusetts Amherst Commonwealth Honors College. She continued her conservatory dance training in the professional division of the Ailey School and completed her first pilates certification through Erika Bloom Pilates Plus in Manhattan.
Sonja has been honored to train with Tom Myers, Dr. Robert Schleip, Erika Bloom, Doris Pasteur Hall, Leslie Powell, Kuan Hui Chew, Rebekeh Rotstein, Thomas Vacanti, Paul Dennis, and Peter Brandenhoff. She has traveled internationally to work with high-profile clients and to lead workshops and certifications.
Currently based in Boston, Sonja specializes in therapeutic, one-on-one pilates customized to the individual. She is inspired by looking at the body as a puzzle, combining release work and strength training to address individual fitness and therapeutic goals. Her functional postural adjustments and lengthening cues sculpt a strong, deeply supported, supple body. She will help you find ease, harmony, and strength through movement and stasis as she identifies and helps to address muscular and structural imbalances. Emphasis is placed on proper biomechanics and alignment so that sessions are both safe and challenging for people of every movement background.
You will leave your sessions feeling empowered, centered, and rejuvenated.
THREE UNIQUE SESSION TYPES DESIGNED TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL CLIENT NEEDS
In-studio sessions may utilize pilates apparatus (chair, barrel, cadillac, reformer, etc) and props to challenge and support you. Sonja provides detailed cuing and hands-on assistance to optimize your sessions.
Bring the studio to you! Sonja can visit your home or office to help you establish and grow your pilates practice. Sonja is able to accommodate sessions with or without equipment. All you need is space large enough for an exercise mat.
Whether you are traveling or social distancing, virtual sessions ensure you are still finding time to care for yourself and work toward your goals. Sonja offers the same customized, interactive sessions she's known for through FaceTime and Zoom.
